Artist’s Retreat Cottage
Many a Brown County artist has set up an easel in the beautiful valley where Owl Creek flows past enormous old sycamore, walnut, and hickory trees. This is the serene setting for Artist’s Retreat Cottage, and is believed by some to be the site where artist L. O. Griffiths painted his lovely piece entitled “Owl Creek Farm”. The quaint 1-bedroom cottage offers guests a chance to rest and reflect on the important things in life.
Everything you need is provided…such as linens for bed, bath, and kitchen, soap and shampoo, and even basic pantry staples like flour, sugar, and coffee. You are invited to make yourselves at home and pretend that this is your very own private getaway.

Equipped with high speed wireless Internet and satellite TV, it’s possible to stay connected with the ‘outside world’, but you may just choose to connect to the real outside world by foraging for hickory nuts, walnuts, buckeyes, or wildflowers. Artist’s Retreat Cottage sits on about 25 acres of land that has been in the same family since 1849, and is a beautiful spot just 2 miles from downtown Nashville.

Nicely furnished and well decorated, the cottage incorporates a number of antiques throughout, but guests’ comfort is always a priority, so a queen size memory foam mattress and super soft pillows will draw you into a blissful slumber when night falls.

Comfortable seating in the living room makes a great place for reading or watching the flat-screen TV. A gas fireplace in the reading nook of the kitchen is a cozy place for choosing one of our many books, or chatting with the cook. Enjoy meals at the dining room table.

There are a number of outdoor places to sit and contemplate your good fortune of spending a few special days in Brown County. It might be hard to decide where you want to sit first: on the deck or porch, near the fire pit or in the bubbling hot tub.

All our cabins have a 3 night minimum for Major Holidays. Must be 24 years or older to book.

Come for a visit and discover for yourself why the owners’ families have called Brown County ‘home’ for more than 150 years!

Quaint, quiet spot just outside of town. Near but far at the same time.

Beautiful, peaceful!
We had the best time in the hot tub and enjoying the nature in this little place! It snowed the weekend we spent in Brown County and the property was beautiful! The perfect reset!

Hi Staff of Hills O’Brown!

We had a great time coming into Brown County for the Eclipse! Truly a once in a lifetime experience.

I really appreciate all the communication from your staff especially with coming into town on Monday the day of the Eclipse. Everything worked out very well. I was surprised the crowds did not show up. A special thank you to Tammy for sending us the directions to the cottage on Sunday.
We spent the entire day at Hard Truth for their party and then went directly to the cottage. As promised the key was under the mat.

Artist Retreat Cottage is a cute little place. A tad rustic. Not really what we are used to… we are more cabin people. Its location is great. Just a quick drive into town. And it was clean.
Crossing the stream to the cottage in a downpour is interesting!

I wanted to say thank you for the great rental experience. This was our first stay with Hills O' Brown and the Artist's Retreat Cottage was everything we were hoping it would be - we truly enjoyed our stay! The staff at Hills O' Brown were also very welcoming and friendly and helped us navigate a lost key situation. Thankfully a kind person returned the lost key a week later so this was recovered, but the staff reassured us during the situation and helped make sure this didn't ruin our weekend vacation. You have more than earned a repeat customer and we look forward to a future visit!

The place was clean, private and a great find. We came to town to ride mountain bikes for a couple of days. The house is just a few minutes from downtown Nashville and a few more to Brown County State Park. We loved the beautiful setting! We would definitely stay there again.

We thought the entire process was very well handled from start to finish. We got exactly the information we needed prior to check-in, including off-hours check-in, as well directions and things to do in the area. I had a question regarding late check-in and they were very quickly answered. We'll be happy to come back some time!

A hot tub, a cozy cottage, and a less-than-five-minute drive to the main area of town. We could bounce between a quiet, fairly secluded spot where we could watch wildlife pass through the hard and creek to shops and brunch so easily. The house had everything we needed for a nice weekend and has had a lot of work done recently to make it even cozier & fresher. We are looking forward to using this spot again.
