As you descend the stairs, you will be surprised by how spacious the lower level finished basement is. A wet bar, an air hockey table, a small pool table, another bedroom with both a queen and a single bed and a full bath are just some of the many amenities of this level.

Shady Thicket was expansive, well decorated, and in a quiet, peaceful setting. We loved the style of the home, the fire pit, and hot tub. It was a lovely retreat.

It was a beautiful location and the hot tub/fire pit were nice! It was pretty pricy for $700+/night we felt. There were a few lights out, an odd smell, the air hockey table barely worked, and lots of clutter/items in the cabinets. We weren’t sure what was safe to use or not. I’m not sure if it’s normal practice to need to supply your own toilet paper, trash bags, etc. especially when you’re paying so much to stay. However, it was a pretty location and a decent amount to do. There is a cute book to write a little note in about your stay, but there were pages ripped out that felt suspicious haha. It was a relaxing, quiet weekend overall.

Nice house but farther away from Bloomington than expected and on narrow winding rural roads

Great weekend
We had a great, quick weekend at Shady Thicket. We appreciated the King size beds, ensuite bathrooms and game room. We used the firepit each night. We enjoyed the remote location, but were close enough to visit some local distilleries and wineries.

Our stay was very relaxing. My mom and sisters and I had plenty of room to be together or to go someplace to read a book by yourself.
The property is beautiful. We used the fire pit and hot tub both nights.
We did cook a meal here and weren’t able to find any olive oil, but there was plenty of cooking utensils and dishes to use. Lots of glasses for wine or cocktails!
The basement area was great for when it was a rainy day. There’s a great little pool table and air hockey that we played.
Overall, it was a nice place and I’d like to come back with my adult children.
The only question I have is, “Why only allow 4 people a stay when you have 2 king beds, a queen bed and a set of bunk beds?”

Response From: Hills O' Brown Vacation Rentals

We really have no say as to the number of guests. It is a county law and is based on the septic system. As to the Olive Oil, we don't supply any condements etc, too many critters in this woodsy county to leave any type of food or paper products to encourage their wanting to live there also!:)

Thanks from the Thomas & Rector families for a great place to hang out on our graduation celebration weekend. Wish we would have had more time to enjoy the house and surroundings.

Thanks for reaching out about our stay. To begin we found the house very comfortable, nicely decorated, clean and loaded with activities.
The only recommendations we have is to have curtains in at least the bathrooms. While its nice to see the trees and nature, its also nice for privacy at night or when changing clothes and stepping out of the shower.
We had a good time and appreciated everything this home had to offer. A great addition to the HOBC rental list!!

Hands down the best AirBnB I have ever stayed at. I'm 48 yrs old and from the second I walked in I traveled back in time. I felt like there was a piece of my grandparents house, my parents house and it just brought a smile to my face. If this house were to ever go up for sale I'd be 1st in line to try and buy it. Absolutely a perfect lay out of a house and perfect in every way. We will be back as often as we can this year and every year.

Thank you so much for hosting us!

Very nice place to stay for a long weekend. Close to town but very private. We enjoyed the hot tub and beautiful scenery. The massive windows in the living room make it easy to see deer walk by. Our dogs loved running around the property. The house is very clean and well maintained. The beds were extremely comfortable. Overall we highly recommend staying here. The only complaint I have is make sure you know this is run by the Hills O'Brown vacation rental management company. You have to go check in at their office location about 20 mins from the house itself and they give you the door code there. I'm glad I read this before heading straight to the Airbnb.

I booked this getaway to bring our family together and unwind after a hectic summer. Our adult children absolutely loved it. The place was spotless, well-equipped, and had fantastic amenities. The guys had a blast hitting the mountain bike trails in Brown County State Park, and we all enjoyed exploring the charming shops and art galleries in Nashville. We had a blast with the campfire setup, the meticulously maintained grounds, the awesome recreation room with games, the hot tub, grilling out, long chats on the screened porch, and even watching the wild turkeys. And the provided griddle made pancake breakfasts a breeze every morning! Our kids were unanimous - they'd love to do it all over again. This place is a real winner!
