Welcome to Whippoorwill Woods!
We are blessed to have you come and enjoy this gracious part of creation. Nature can ‘teach you the unforced rhythms of grace’ as our welcome sign states. Whippoorwill Woods is 3.8 miles North of Nashville.

Upon entering Whippoorwill Lane a majestic view of Brown County Greets you. The woods on the lane are intimate and dense so that you might wonder where the cabin is but at the top of the drive, the world opens up to reveal a secluded cabin and one of the two reported highest views of Brown County. The cantilevered deck looks out onto vast ridges of trees and a 2/3 acre pond.

On a clear day you can see the tower at the south entrance of the Brown County State Park which is about five miles as the crow flies. In the fall, as you take a relaxing dip in the hot tub, you have one of the best private vistas to be enjoyed in this part of the world. A well-marked mile-long trail past the tree house, around the blue gill stocked pond and down to the confluence of the streams connects on the top of the west side of the property to the Yellowwood trail system which then leads back up to the path in the front of the cabin.

The cabin was built in 1979 by George Woods. Its design is simple and beautiful, artistically using poplar, maple, hickory, oak and cedar wood. The spiral stairway was the first addition to the cabin after we bought it in 1992 as we had young children at the time.

On the first floor the windows are large which brings the woods and vistas into the living space. The windows on the second floor are awash in summer green and fall yellow. The living space is cozy with a woodstove and comfortable seating.

The kitchen is simple yet very convenient. Dining and sleeping arrangements allow room for 4 guests. This includes a double foldout couch on the first floor plus a double bed and two beds on the second floor loft in two separate sleeping areas. The second floor is an open concept of sleeping areas (see photos) with an A-frame roof and railing that overlooks the living space.

Whippoorwill Woods is a cabin and woods that have been enjoyed by over several hundred people in the years that have owned it. This gracious place is perfect for a variety of occasions including; intimate anniversaries, fall getaways, Seder meals, work, school, and simple, beautiful personal retreats. Blessings and welcome to all.

This cabin has usable water supplied by the lake well. The water is safe, tested and filtered, but, it is not "city water". You might want to bring some drinking water with you if you do not like the taste of well water.

This was a very nice place to escape busy everyday life! The view was amazing, and we loved the hot tub. It was small, quaint, and quiet.

A few things I would note: the directions given in the packet at check in did not exactly match the drive. I am not great with directions but was still able to find it.

There were bad storms the first night (Friday) and when we left Sunday there were two trees down the way blocking us in. Two were saplings and we were able to get creative to get out. The other was immovable but luckily a nice neighbor came out with his chain saw to help us. Just a word of caution for travelers on a weekend with bad weather. This is remote location.

I think the bakeware could use updating- they appeared very old and had some things baked on them. Pots needed washing from the previous guest but that was a quick fix.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this cabin to celebrate his birthday. It was amazing and had everything we could have wanted. The view was exceptional. We really enjoyed the on site trail and hot tub. Only down side was we ran out of water a few times. The property is on well water so be mindful of your water use if you stay here. Overall great experience.

Perfect Getaway
My friend and I were looking for a place to get away for the weekend to relax and read. This place was perfect, the views were amazing and the place was very clean. It unexpectedly snowed while we were out there and it was easy to contact the management office and work with them to get a plow out there, they even offered us a discounted night if the plows didn't get out in time. I also accidentally left something in the cabin and they are working with me to send it back!

Beautiful surroundings, cabin is great and we had a great time. I have one recommendation, bring a fan for upstairs. It gets really warm upstairs. The ceiling fan and box fan provided helped but we couldn’t change the temperature inside and it was super hot outside so upstairs gets rather warm.

Patty was SO responsive! I think she texted me back in one minute when I had a question. ? The home was beautiful, as advertised, view was unreal, so private. I took a video and showed my family who now wants to visit! Probably should have stayed longer. Thanks for a lovely getaway Patty!

We had the most relaxing time at this place. Everything was clean and well organized. Communication was pleasant and simple. Our stay felt very exclusive, with plenty to explore within 20 minutes drive, as well as plenty of fun and relaxing to be had in the cabin itself!

The place would have been perfect to bring our son, as we would’ve loved it with us. it was secluded, had a great atmosphere, had recommendations for what trails to go on and details about them, the directions were easy to maneuver. The host had additional soap, conditioner and shampoo in the bathroom for us, as well as popcorn and hot cocoa. They were nice additions on top of everything else. Couldn’t have been happier. We followed the directions in the book as they were different from the email, but everything mostly matched up to what we were supposed to do when we check out.

First of all, we would like to thank you for providing us a great cabin to stay in last weekend. It was a great few days for us to just relax and enjoy each other. The past year has been hard for us. She was diagnosed with breast cancer so with the surgeries, appointments and radiation it’s been stressful. It was truly the first time in a long time that I’ve seen her relaxed, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. Really the only complaint would be a bigger TV.

Difficult to find if checking in at night. We really enjoyed the seclusion. If stairs are a challenge this may not be for you due to tight spiral staircase. However, we loved it and hope to come back soon. Great place!
